Koolhaas Hat

This beanie pattern by Jared Flood of Brooklyn Tweed originally appeared in Interweave Knits Holiday 2007 issue and has since become quite popular, clocking more than 6250 projects on Ravelry, no doubt in part because it looks so nice on both men and women. It's also a great way to learn a couple of ways to cable without a cable needle, a very handy thing to know. Take this class and you'll get a good start on a hat that you might like so much you won't want to give it away!

One 2-hour session; $25
Prerequisites: Cast on, bind off, knit and purl (and be able to distinguish the two by sight)
Materials: Bring the pattern and all the materials described in the pattern ($4.50 from Brooklyn Tweed or Ravelry) to the first class and arrive having completed these instructions: Cast on 104 sts and join in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Work in k2, p2 rib (starting out each end with a single knit: *k1, p2, k1*) for 10 rows.
Schedule: Monday, December 12th 7-9pm

Paramount Beaded Cuff

This pattern by Megan Wood was inspired by the Art Deco design of the Paramount Theater in Oakland. The garter stitch construction makes it an easy project for beginners - with no purling required! - and the stretchy nature of garter stitch allows the cuff to slip quickly onto the wrist. This class will get you started on making one cuff, finish it for a fabulous bracelet for your next holiday party - or a warm and sparkly gift!

One 2-hour session; $25
Prerequisites: Cast on, bind off, knit, purl (and be able to distinguish the two by sight)
Materials: Bring the pattern and all the materials (beads, lace-weight yarn, and needles) to class. The pattern is a free download from Ravelry.
Schedule: Monday, December 19th 7-9pm

Testimonials

“Thea Gray is a wonderful teacher. Since I’ve learned knitting from her, I’ve become absolutely addicted — to yarn, to knitting and making hats. It’s my new full-time hobby!”
—Shelley, Nursing Student, former Massage Therapist

“Thea’s clear and patient teaching style allowed me to keep the yarn on the needles for my first time ever. I’ve tried several times to learn to knit and have always given up in discouragement. I not only kept the yarn on, I made darn good rows. She gently showed me the tricks and how to fix the misses. I gained enough confidence during a short session with Thea to relax and enjoy the feel of the yarn and the rhythm of the stitches.”
—Beverly, Editorial Consultant and Writer

Not only is Thea a patient and thorough teacher, she's enthusiastic and skilled in many different knitting techniques. She's helped me go beyond merely following patterns.
